This year at IT Architect 2008 in Dallas, Jesus Rodriguez presented the session REST for the rest of us:
During recent years one of the hardest debated topics in the SOA community has been the use SOAP and WS-* protocols vs. REST. Beyond the arguments of this debate, its undoubtedly that the simplicity of REST, from the consumer perspective, has made It one of the most viable options for enterprise applications. The increasing adoption of Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) and REST-based techniques has produced a set of reusable patterns for implementing fundamental building blocks of enterprise services such as reliability, transactional messaging, security and service discovery. This session will present a series of the most common patterns of enterprise RESTful services.
The session will explore some of the key aspects required to enable enterprise-ready RESTful services capabilities such as security, resource representation, exception handling, high-low-REST and governance. Additionally, we will illustrate architecture techniques and best practices used to implement those fundamental patterns combining innovative technologies such as Atom Publishing Protocol (APP) with fundamental architecture styles such as Resource Oriented Architecture (ROA) ,URI modeling, etc.
